Spreading the word on&n•©<bsp;ballast water m✔π<"anagement – new free&nbs★'€×p;online tools l±£₩∞aunched

A new online learning porta±Ω'l including a free e-β≤×∏learning course on the Operational As×§λpects of Ballast Wate± r Management (BWM) was launched to≤→×day (27 April 2015) by the GEF-UNDP-✘×≤IMO GloBallast Partnerships Programmβ$<φe and the Global Industry Allia♣₹nce (GIA).
The online tools have been de✔↑veloped by the GloBallast projecπ®t, with financial suppo♥λrt from the GIA to assist ↑ ₩σwith the wider implemλ®↔™entation of the Intern≈Ω≠♥ational Convention for the Control and •>§Management of Ships' Ballasγ §αt Water and Sediments, 2004 (BWM ←¥ Convention).
The learning portal i✘×$≤s accessible free of charge throug₹γ≤h registering at http://globallastlearning.com/login/↑ ¶←index.php. The portal gives ↓access to an online Resource Li ©≥'brary and to the e-learning course.±←εγ It will also have th>↓€e facility to host free webinars re lated to BWM in the near futurδ"e.
The e-learning course on Operation ¥Ωal Aspects of BWM is based on ✔₩the GloBallast Advanced Tσ♣raining Course on Operational As •pects of BWM (developed with financial↔∑ support from the GIA and the IMO Integδ ♦×rated Technical Coop≠<§eration Programme (ITCP)), and is aimed at all stakeholder Ω↑↓s who will have to deal wit♥β∑h operational aspects of ∏¶ballast water management,•↓ ∏ such as Port State Control Offiλσπcers (PSCOs), but also seafarers, a↔↑☆nd all crew on board a ship♠ . The course contains four module<☆s; Introduction, Operational Asε≠pects, Survey and Certification, aλ÷★✔nd Compliance Monitoring and EnforcemΩ←♦↕ent (CME). In each module'σΩ∏, the user will explor©£e the issue in the cont €ext of the objective of the mγodule, discover key fπ¶λ☆acts to build on the✘βλ users existing knowledge on BWM anε>d finally use carefully d♣¶ "esigned hypothetical scenarios to put t÷₩his new knowledge into prac∞∑₹tice.
The learning portal also offers &✔§the opportunity to download the e-learλ≤ning course for free so the user ≤€$could use it offline at a la♠₹ter stage: a very useful optio≥ ©Ωn for seafarers who may no× ≠'t always have internet acc♣←ess on board ships.
